8th INTERNATIONAL
ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL
Deadline: February 15, 2026

The Multimedia Institute for Human Rights (IMD) announces the opening of the call for submissions for the 8th edition of the International Environmental Film Festival (FINCA), to be held in person from August 12 to 19, 2026, in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The call will remain open from December 17, 2025 to February 15, 2026.
.
FINCA is a competitive, international film festival that has been held in Argentina since 2010. It serves as a meeting space for filmmakers, activists, communities, and specialists, aiming to promote critical cinema that contributes to social transformation and to the creation of new narratives around the environment and human rights.
In 2026, the eighth edition of FINCA will place particular emphasis on the Right to Land as part of global debates on the socio-ecological crisis, environmental justice, and development models, recognizing that territorial conflicts are complex assemblages in which multiple actors—human and non-human—interact to sustain life. In the Global South, these disputes intensify around the defense of commons, ecosystems, and territories in the face of extractivist logics, understanding territory as a dynamic network and a collective bond that articulates memory, identity, and ecological interdependence, from which it is urgent to imagine more just and sustainable futures.
National and international works completed on or after July 1, 2024 are eligible to apply, provided they address socio-environmental issues from diverse and original perspectives. FINCA accepts short films, medium-length films, and feature films, including documentary or fiction works, as well as experimental films, animation, video clips, work in progress projects, web series, and new audiovisual formats, with a broad human rights perspective.
Submitted works may address, among others, the following themes: Climate Change; Territories and Extractivism; Indigenous Peoples; Water; Food Sovereignty; Biodiversity and Conservation; Sustainability and Transitions; Ecofeminisms; Youth; Human Rights.
The Official Competition includes three categories: Official International Feature Film Competition; Official International Short and Medium-Length Film Competition; and Official Latin American Documentary Competition. The main competitions award cash prizes, as well as additional prizes in post-production services. The festival will also feature non-competitive sections: Climate Justice, Ecofeminism, Mother Earth, We Are Water, Finquita, Schools, Awareness and Sustainability, Energy Horizons, Food Sovereignty, Youth, and FICDH – Human Rights.
The submission fee is ARS $7,500 for Argentine titles and USD $5 for international titles, payable upon completion of the online submission process, available at. www.festivalfinca.com
