JOIN SCOTLAND'S ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL! LandxSea is where films ignite action. 🌊 We are Scotland’s environmental film festival – a long weekend of cinema, conversation, and community on the northeast coast, where audiences come ready to think, feel, and get involved. Each year we curate a small, powerful selection of films that stay with people long after the credits roll. We showcases films about climate, nature, and place-based stories, with a strong interest in Indigenous perspectives, land rights, and communities on the frontline of environmental change. Since launching in 2023, we’ve: - welcomed filmmakers and speakers from across Scotland and around the world - grown a year-round LandxSea Monthly strand and Schools at the Festival programme - hosted local assemblies, beach swims, and creative workshops - doubled submissions, while keeping our programme intimate, thoughtful, and audience-focused About the Festival Founded in 2023, LandxSea is Scotland’s dedicated environmental film festival, based in Montrose, a coastal town in northeast Scotland where shifting dunes, rising seas, and rich wildlife make the climate story feel very close to home. Every September, we bring together: - ground-breaking climate and nature-focused films - inspiring guest speakers and panels - local assemblies and community conversations - schools screenings, creative workshops, and family events Our focus is the deep connection between land and sea, and how environmental change shapes people’s lives, here in Scotland and around the world. The festival is hosted at the Montrose Playhouse, a former swimming pool transformed into a community-owned cinema and arts venue with excellent projection, sound, and access. LandxSea is proud to be: - the first UK member of the international Green Film Network (GFN), a coalition of environmental film festivals across 20+ countries - the first Scottish member of the UK Green Film Network, a group of exhibitors championing climate-conscious storytelling and greener cinema practice We are grateful for the support of Screen Scotland, part of Creative Scotland, and Film Hub Scotland, part of the BFI Film Audience Network, awarding funds from Screen Scotland and National Lottery funding from the BFI. The Festival is a registered charity in Scotland.
